The following are the tools and techniques that must be adopted to check and identify  the credible news they are -

Two source check
Apply PIER Model to Analyze the news –
P- Proximity – refers to how close is the evidence
E – Expertise – What is the Expertise
T- Transparency – Does the source has credibility
Reliability – How reliable is the source  can a reader trust it
Interest Point – the affiliation associated with the source .
Professor  gave us tips that we must adopt to identify and distinguish between Credible and Fake news they are –
Firstly – Review it and check the facts carefully and look for the same news from more than two websites and credible sources like – the Guardian , Washington Post , Hindu and then come up with reliable conclusions of a particular news story. Make sure to double check the facts before drawing conclusions.
Secondly – Uphold Media Ethics at all times  - remain true to yourself while repotting a story
Thirdly – Analyze the news in different perspectives and look for official press release
2 Theories of Media – Media Gratification
Agenda Setting Diffused in Society
The following are the tools and techniques that must be adopted to check and identify  the Fake news and social media  they are-
Source – Source is one of the prominent component of identifying the “Fake News”  in social media platforms like Twitter – you can amplify it when you share , like or comment or whether you have plagiarized the quote or image from outside source .
One thing  the writer must always keep in mind is that – you must do original reportage of events
Language – Language must be kept in mind while commenting to post – one shouldn’t use any kind of language which harms the sentiments of any community or nation state, and it shouldn’t target the others.
Look closer to image – Think before posting
Hence in brief – the way you write , structure and the source – the resource person or the websites all comes under the criteria of the fake news.

10/10/2020 at 2 PM- COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS- Newspaper Reading

We the students of the Competitive Skill Development Committee  had informative session on – “News Paper Reading Skills. Mr. Mithul Joseph, held the informative session and gave some insightful  tips and techniques to crack the exams. The class was started off by briefing the students of cultivating the habit of reading newspaper which will help us to enhance our knowledge on the wide variety of issues that are taking place across the globe. Firstly , Sir informed the students to do be smart – in picking the topics that we need to concentrate while we read and make notes from the various newspaper. Sir , taught the students to be practical in our approach and one must choose the most credible  newspaper . The essential key for being and honing the skill of newspaper reading for any kind of competitive examination is to  look through the syllabus and then the candidates must focus on  the wide variety of topics that are mentioned in the portions – which includes – law , polity , economy , science and technology . the second  step involves , looking through previous year questions paper and choose a topic ad question based on that start reading from various newspaper sources – and look into key words , to know more about a topic or the subject  look for the year when it appeared on the newspaper.
The reader must focus on how to gather and read the news and do analysis while you read and make notes – the structure of the newspaper .Then look into key words , phrases or terms post that do further research and do homework about the topic , included analysis and bring about arguments while you make notes.Always one must look for the question based on theory – which must be connected to current affairs.
The smart tricks to so smart reading
Always remember to look into the front page as this page contains headlines which are of national importance which contains topics such as – polity and economy. Understand the concept through newspaper reading , do further research and analysis and come with argument on the topic that you read up. Make suitable notes based on context and concept  from newspaper.
Second page – involves regional news look into them to know what is happening in your state or region.
Business news – is important to know more about the economic aspect which will be serve a great deal  while you appear for the exam
Fourth – International News -must be read , researched and analyzed to understand the relations between them , we must question while you read and make arguments regrading what led to the conflict and why they signed the agreement  to and what steps they might take to resolve  the crisis.
Sports news is in the last page – it is equally important to understand sports and sport events
Editorial Page – Brings about two perspectives and it is usually based  on current scenarios
While we read, we must ask ourselves why it happened, and we must go back and do personal research .Remember to come up with arguments and make notes
Rather than looking into opinion look into the writing style always keep in mind to  come with suitable argument to either support or oppose a particular stance taken by the writer on the particular issue. Look into how they added facts , criticize or neutral stance on the issue.
Thus newspaper reading must be cultivated on a daily basis as this will help to crack the exam and interviews. This will also help you to substantiate the argument with the theory.

22/10/2020- 5 PM- MEDIA- News Gathering

MEDIA SKILL DEVELOPMENT SESSION
OCTOBER 15, 2020
TOPIC -NEWS GATHERING
COORDINATOR – MITUL JOSPEH , CAPS

We the students of MAIS had an enriching Skill development session on – how to properly gather news and what resources to use while collecting the news for broadcasting and/or publishing purposes.

The session was taught by Mitul Joseph from CAPS. Sir started the session by introducing us to basic concept and theories which is important for any media personnel to keep in mind whenever they come across an event or happening that can be reported. He also laid emphasis on the previous session topics on the grounds that they are not to be considered as standalone sessions. All of these are a part on of one whole major element dubbed as ‘media’.
The following are key features  of the session -
The sources from where to gather what news
News Channels
News Channels are considered to be the major source to become aware of what happening has taken place and where has the incident occurred. While many might not go by this source, it is important for a media personnel to understand that though they might be their competitors and rivals in the professional world but in actuality they are the best source to gather news from.
But an important fact to be kept in mind is to keep one’s eyes open for reliability in any and every source being used.

Exclusives
This is one very important element to be comprehended whenever the process of news gatherings is being referred to.
Basically utilized to report something of extreme prominence. Can be news of national prominence also.
This is an essential factor to be understood in great detail by the media personnel as they might sometimes be the only one reporting such an incident or be responsible for its final outcome to the public.

Reaching out
Yet another essential and crucial element to be paid attention to is the process of reaching out towards the sources. This process ultimately decides how a news will be interpreted by the public i.e. whether it will be taken up as a fake news or a credible news, just from the first glance alone.

There are three main types of sources the media personnel can use:
Primary:
Where the correspondent is directly linked to the event or happening. Is usually revolving around a person of authority. These sources provide with a much better and clearer idea of the incident.
Example can be taken of : Press Releases, Written Documents, an employee of a person with authority (if involved with a news happening)

Secondary:
These sources might be indirectly involved with the news happening, they might or might not provide information that is the actual truth about the whole incident. Information gathered with the help of these sources is also referred to as ‘Supplementary Information’ .

Tertiary:
These sources are not readily available, they can be leaked documents or information. Are often taken up as unreliable and the media personnel can’t always be public about the source if it falls under this category.

However in cases of investigative journalism , primary sources are mostly understood as leaked information , then it falls completely in the hands of the person reporting the incident whether or not to consider it reliable enough to publish it.

Lastly two major factors falling under the criteria of information overload and underload , should also be well understood by the media personnel so as to avoid any future contradictions with their own work , these are : Timeliness and Proximity. The factors on the basis of which the public judges news articles on.

Reading nurtures you and writing helps to express our thoughts and opinions – thus our thought process is transformed into beautiful words . Thus I would like to quote – ‘Pen is Mightier than Swords “ and it hold true un all walks of our life . Academic writing or essay  writing to crack competitive exam.
